Out of the 100 thousand years of lineage of humans on this beautiful planet only the last 250 years we’ve spent as modern beings. It was not so modern for India in the early days (some reasons for good and some for bad), but for the past 25 years have been like we are in a hyper drive. Things have improved so much that we are moving akin to the any competent (in worldly way) part of the world.
In olden days Life span of Indians were too low compared to the other “standard” regions of the world. Life expectancy (number of years one can survive in a given population at a given time) of Indians was at 31 years in 1947, 61 years in 2005 to almost 70 years in 2020. That’s a tremendous achievement! Isn’t it? Its the same story in almost all part of the world. The Industrial revolutions, the change it made in quality of Food, medication, sanitation, vaccines, transportation etc. has indeed improved our lives innumerable ways. I wholeheartedly grateful the amazing industrial complex. Thank You!
It also brought the Chronic diseases to our door steps. Obesity, Diabetes, Hypertension, Heart disease, cancer, Back pain, Knee pain, Mental ailments and many more. Take an example of Diabetes, India is the home for 2nd largest Diabetic population on the planet! 77 millions! Would you believe this? And another astonishing fact is that we have even more number of Prediabetic (people on the verge of developing Clinical Diabetes) population among us. As per IDF 10% total global expenditure is on treatment of Diabetes and its complications. I hope you guys are following me…
Well, we can save some money and suffering (that’s the point), so that we can spend it on other essential things( if we choose to). I have been I this field of Diabetology for the past 10 years and multiple studies, data, clinical observations repeatedly indicates that majority of Diabetes can be prevented with simple measures such as regular self monitoring of blood glucose at home, Daily physical activity and mindful eating habits.
And that’s the very goal of this blog! I strongly believe We can move “ towards a world free of Preventable Diabetes” one small step at a time. I thank you for giving a trial on this blog. Please come back for more thoughts on this subject, I’m 100% sure that you care just as much I do.
